Xel-SMBS™ supports students at Young Apprentice event at St. Mary’s College, Blackburn
Xel Sales & Marketing Business School (Xel-SMBS™) has shown its support for youth enterprise by sponsoring a ‘Young Apprentice’ style event at St Mary’s College.
The two day event, held at the college in Blackburn, saw 10 students from St Mary’s College and 10 students from Catholic University School, Dublin broken into teams to go head to head, putting their enterprising skills to the test.
The first day saw the teams tap into their financing and sales skills as they were set the task of baking a product to sell to fellow students. The teams had to select a recipe at random, with some choosing more unusual products, such as courgette teabread, than others! They had a range of factors to consider including branding, costings and clever PR and Marketing ideas to entice purchases from their fellow students.
The second part of the event saw the students put together a management plan for one of the college’s bands. The process included the band playing a piece of music and a short question and answer session. The teams were then tasked with everything from creating a brand identity including naming the band, designing collateral such as a CD cover right through to costing an entire tour for the band. Each group then presented their ideas to the panel of judges, effectively pitching to win the band’s ‘management’ contract.
Andrew Jones, Managing Director of Xel-SMBS™ said: “When the opportunity to get involved came up, we jumped at it, encouraging young people to dig deep and use their own creative business skills is a big part of the Xel-SMBS™ ethos. After seeing these young people in action and really pushing themselves in the business tasks we were incredibly impressed to say the least.”
